MARK MCCAW Dear Lawrence Road Middle School Community, U I am thrilled and honored to introduce myself as your new principal. As a long-time resident, I have deep roots in this vibrant community. I am a proud graduate of Uniondale High School as well as an alum of California Avenue School and Turtle Hook Middle School. Over the past 15 years, I have had the privilege of serving this wonderful district as a social studies teacher, alternative high school principal, assistant principal, and principal of the "Mighty" Uniondale High School. Throughout my career, I have been committed to fostering a sense of pride and community among our students. I am honored to be known affectionately by my high school students as "Mr. U Strong;" it is a nickname I wear with great pride. I have always strived to motivate and energize our young people, instilling in them a sense of ownership in their community and a desire to succeed. My most significant accomplishment has been encouraging students to not only graduate high school, but to embrace their limitless potential and pursue higher education. As I begin this new journey as principal of Lawrence Road Middle School, I pledge to bring with me the same passion and dedication that I have demonstrated throughout my career. I am excited to work alongside the incredible staff, students, and families of Lawrence Road Middle School and help to create an environment where all young scholars feels valued and inspired to achieve their very best. My goal is to build on the strong foundation laid by my predecessor, Dexter Hodge, and to infuse our school with the high school spirit that has been so successful at Uniondale High School. I look forward to meeting each of you and working together to ensure that Lawrence Road Middle School remains a place of excellence and growth. This event was an opportunity for participants to reflect on the important history between this holiday. On June 19, 1865, nearly two years after President Abraham Lincoln emancipated enslaved Africans in America, Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas with news of freedom. We are excited to announce the opening of applications for the upcoming UPL Empowerment Academy for Teens! Open to students in Grades 6-12, this unique program offers an engaging mix of academic and creative sessions designed to inspire and cultivate future leaders. Hosted by the Uniondale Public Library in partnership with the Uniondale Union Free School District, participants will have the opportunity to earn up to 15 hours of community service credit and leave the academy with a completed project showcasing their skills.
