The Lawrence Road MS Mock Trial Team Successfully Competes at the 32nd Annual Western Suffolk BOCES Mock Trial Tournament

On Friday March 27, 2015 the members of the Lawrence Road Mock Trial Team participated in the 32nd Annual Western Suffolk BOCES Middle School Mock Trial at Dowling College. Our prosecution team competed against a team from Locust Valley school district and won their case. Our defense team competed against a team from Southampton school district and narrowly lost on points, but successfully defended their client. The judges praised our students for their presentation, critical thinking and public speaking skills. Our students proudly represented the Uniondale school district at this event which over twenty Long Island school districts participated in.
Congratulations to the Mock Trial Team whose members are; Nylah Harris, Louis Manzanares, Elisha Maynard, Zamoi Murrell, Jordan Pommells, Ojore Powell, Kyle Reynolds, Samuel Saintsil, Sarah St. Preux, Kellyne Vauderuil,  and Dylan Donaldson.
Special thanks to their advisors April Francis & Rachel Germain for preparing our students to successfully compete in this tournament. We look forward to their participation next year.

Safety First

One of our biggest priorities as parents and educators is ensuring the safety of our children.

Parents, please discuss the following safety reminders
with your children.

And students, please follow these guidelines carefully
every day.

·  NEVER WALK ALONE.  Always walk in groups of at least 2 or 3 students.
·  BE ALERT!  Be aware of your surroundings at all times (people, cars, bicycles).  ***Do not wear headphones or text while walking so that you can be sure to remain aware of your surroundings until you are safely in your house.

·  ESTABLISH A “SAFE HOUSE.”  Talk to neighbors and local businesses on your route to school and ask them if it okay to stay there in case of an emergency.

·  AVOID SHORTCUTS through desolate or abandoned areas.

·  NEVER, EVER accept a ride from people not arranged or approved by your parents.

·  PARENTS—make sure your children know your work and cellphone numbers.  Make a rule that they call you as soon as they arrive home after school.
